Externship

Externship is an on-the-job experience for each student for a minimum period of 10 weeks with 40 hour work week for a total of 400 hours. It is generally held during the summer months between the first year and second year of academic study. The externship is designed to be the culminating experience of the MSPH program where each student integrates and applies the knowledge learned in public health core courses, professional core courses and elective courses to the practical externship experience. MSPH students have participated in externship's at the local, state, federal and international public health settings. Additional externship's have taken place at non-governmental organizations. Externship's have been placed with Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Tennessee Hospital Association, Centers for Disease Control, Department of Veterans Affairs, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Harvard University, and the Minority International Research training (MIRT) Program in Ethiopia Africa.
