Meharry Hosts Inter-Professional Geriatric Case Training

The Meharry Consortium Geriatric Education Center was host to the Inter-Professional
Team Geriatric Case Training on Thursday, February 7, 2013.
Over 160 students and faculty from seven graduate and professional programs on six
Nashville area campuses including Tennessee State University, University of Tennessee,
Belmont University, Lipscomb University, Vanderbilt University and NHC Healthcare
participated.
During the team meetings, students had the opportunity to experience inter-professional
collaboration while working to review a geriatric case and develop a patient assessment
and treatment plan.
Teams were then evaluated by Family Nurse Practitioner “observers” who noted the quality
of their collaboration as well as the teams’ assessment and treatment plan. Two teams
were selected to present during the closing session.
The event concluded with an interactive general session featuring the team presentations
and a model assessment and discharge plan by an inter-professional faculty panel.
Students also had the opportunity to share reflections about their collaborative experiences.
